Ken Giese

Welcome to the Middle College High School Mathematics Department!

My name is Mr. Ken Giese, and I am in my second year as the math teacher for Middle College.  I am a native of Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin and Ole Miss before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Memphis in 1988.  From 1988 to 1998, I was on the math faculty of Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tennessee.  After moving to Nashville in 1998, I taught at Antioch High School until moving to Middle College in the fall of 2007.  I enjoy teaching math, and during the years I have been in the classroom have had the opportunity to teach every math class offered in middle and high school, from 7th Grade Math to Calculus.  I am also certified to teach computer programming, and have taught courses in the programming languages of Basic, COBOL, Pascal, and C++, as well as A.P. Computer Science.  In my time away from school I enjoy traveling, and have traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.  I also enjoy old houses and am currently renovating a home in Nashville's historic district.

At Middle College High School, we offer Geometry, Algebra II, and Discrete Math.  Please click on any of these classes at the left side of this page for a complete course decription.  If you are interested in coming to Middle College, it is very important you earn your Algebra I credit before you come here, as we do not offer Algebra I.  Contact our guidance counselor for more information about the requirements to enter our program.  Students who are planning to take Algebra II can take College Algebra for college credit from Nashville State and receive high school credit for Algebra II also!  Any student who qualifies to take college math classes may enroll in courses offered by Nashville State including College Algebra, Pre-Calculus(I and II), and Calculus(I,II, and III).
