Questions and Answers for the MIDDLE COLLEGE
Question: What is the charge for classes at Nashville State Community College (NSCC)?
Answer: Typical costs include a $5.00 application fee, $101.00 per credit hour, and a $10.00 parking fee for the calendar year, September 1st to August 31st. Students have the option of taking the ACT Residual, administered by NSCC staff, for $30.00. If students choose to take the ACT or the SAT, they are responsible for paying $29.00 for the ACT and/or $41.50 or the SAT.
Question: What monies can students receive for the dual enrollment program? Is lottery money available? Are there scholarships from NSCC?
Answer: The lottery is now sponsoring the Dual Enrollment Grant by allocating a total of $600.00 per year, or $300.00 per semester, for each student accepted into the Dual Enrollment Program. Students must maintain a 2.75 in each of these classes. Additionally, NSCC has foundation scholarships available.
Question: What Tennessee colleges accept the dual enrollment credits from the Middle College? Board of Regent Schools? Other private schools? Are there any Tennessee schools who do not accept these credits?
Answer: NSCC is a Tennessee Board of Regents’ school. All Tennessee Board of Regents' schools and University of Tennessee colleges and universities will transfer the credits from NSCC. Belmont, Trevecca, and Lipscomb have accepted the dual enrollment credits. However, the student is responsible for obtaining verification of transfer credits from their chosen university.
Question: Is there an age associated with dual enrollment?
Answer: There is not an age associated with dual enrollment, but students must be classified as juniors.
Question: Can a student enroll in more than six hours per year?
Answer: Yes, NSCC recommends no more than six hours a semester; yet, depending on the student, he or she may take up to twelve or fifteen hours a semester.
Question: Will there be opportunities for parental involvement? Support groups? PTSA?
Answer: Yes. Parents will be involved from the beginning as part of the interview process in helping Middle College officials make a clear understanding of their child. A support group is a key piece of student success in a middle college program. A PTSA group will develop after the school begins.
Question: Does NSCC have a payment plan for cost?
Answer: There is deferred payment that allows half the cost plus $10.00 to be paid in two monthly payments during the term. Fees can be deferred during the fall and spring semesters.
Question: In completing and graduating from the Middle College, what will be a student’s enrollment status into a college?
Answer: Enrollment status will depend on how many hours are earned through the dual enrollment program. If enough hours are transferred to a four-year college/university, the student could be considered a sophomore.
